Striped Dolphin

Also known as the Euphorosyne dolphin, the Striped dolphin is found in almost all oceans, preferably temperate and tropical oceans, and was once formerly a subspecies of bottlenose dolphin. They mainly feed on pelagic fish and squid, but they also eat octopus, krill, and other crustaceans. They reach sexual maturity around 7-9 years for ones inhabiting the Mediterranean, while the ones living in the Pacific reach sexual maturity at 12 years, their life expectancy is up to 60 years. Male Striped dolphins are larger than females, weighting 160kg (352 lbs) and 2.6 m (8.5 ft), females are only 2.4m (8ft) long and weight 150 kg (330 lb).

They move in larger groups, though are smaller in Mediterranean and Atlantic oceans. Its not uncommon for them to mix with other dolphins. There is estimated 2 million of Striped dolphins in the wild and are not endangered. Tragically as to many marine life, human interferances such as pollution, busy ship lanes, hunting, and fishing nets/gears are one of the greatest threats to Striped dolphins.
